Privacy Policy

Stream Catcher is a Chrome extension that runs on the user’s device. It identifies M3U8/HLS and magnet links on web pages and processes downloads only after an explicit user action.

Data handled

After capture is enabled, the extension locally processes the current tab’s page URL, network resource URLs, response content type, M3U8 and magnet links found on the page, and playlists, media segments, initialization segments, and standard AES-128 keys selected by the user for download. It also stores local preferences such as capture status and automatic clearing.

Resource URL query parameters may include temporary access tokens generated by the source site. The extension does not actively read Cookie values, although Chrome may attach existing site Cookies to requests according to the source site’s rules.

Purpose

Data is used only to display captured results and, at the user’s request, parse, decrypt, transmux, merge, and save media. It is not used for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or any purpose unrelated to the disclosed product functionality.

Storage and retention

• Captured records are stored in Chrome session storage and are cleared when the browser closes.
• Playlists, keys, media segments, and generated files are processed temporarily in the download tab’s memory.
• Capture consent and preferences remain locally until the user changes them, clears extension data, or uninstalls the extension.

Transmission and sharing

The extension has no developer backend. Captured records, browsing activity, media content, and access tokens are not uploaded to the developer, sold, or made available for developer review. Only when the user selects download or opens a magnet link is relevant data sent as required to the source site or media CDN, Chrome’s local save mechanism, or the user’s chosen system magnet client.

Security and controls

The store version downloads remote resources over HTTPS only, except local development addresses, and does not execute remote code. Capture is off by default and requires explicit consent. Users can pause capture, clear records, close Chrome to clear session data, or uninstall the extension.

Limited Use

The extension’s use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including Limited Use requirements. User data is used only to provide and improve disclosed functionality, is not used for personalized advertising, is not sold or transferred to data brokers, and is not manually accessed.

Content rights

The extension does not bypass DRM, paywalls, login restrictions, or other access controls. Users may only process content they own, are authorized to save, or may legally save, and must follow website terms and applicable law.
